THE WORLD TODAY

A TIMESTAMP OF THE 21ST CENTURY

An ode to the 1955 exhibition “The Family of Man” by legendary curator Edward Steichen for the MoMA, The World Today uses the blockchain to create a permanent record of our world, rich in metadata connections that further develop and cross-reference the stories within, resulting in a complex net of properties and rarities including 138 curated grails, 1 from each artist. The World Today 10K+ is a founding a new paradigm in the photography medium, expanding the frontier of possibilities for photography in the web3 era, and is responsible for onboarding dozens of world-class photographers to NFTs

138 world-class, established and emerging photographers from all 5 continents, including various Magnum photographers, brought together by Obscura DAO to take the 1st global visual timestamp of the 21st century.  Each artist captured100 images each within a two month time period, March-April 2022. This created a 13,800 native 1/1 NFT photo collection of cities, landscapes, communities, people, events and conceptual images that will tell our story for centuries to come, remaining the largest NFT-native community photography commission ever made.

INTERCONNECTION

A pantone'd cast study and visual tapestry, this portrait series documents one of the 21 Century's fundamental shifts in "The World Today" by capturing virtual connections IRL. My interpretation of Obscura DAO's prompt involved seeking all types of digital relationships that originated online - from friendships and romantic partners, to coaches and mentors - and documenting how the relationship traversed from digital to IRL at my outdoor studio. Our constant interconnection marks a change of the greatest magnitude in how humanity interacts. Chance encounters moved from bars and coffee shops to dating apps and social media. Any disruption in one's internet connection, no matter how brief, is akin to a sense of loss that runs deeper than the code 404 message. The virtual connections we have are our new sense of community.
